Small businesses are a crucial part of the economy - which is why we won’t let them suffer.
There is no doubt that this virus is hurting our economy. Maybe it’s even hurting your business, in some way. Everyone is being effected by this and it is naive to say that this will just “blow over.” It might, but it won’t be overnight.
So, what can you do to help out small businesses around you and around the US and beyond? Here are some ideas that you may not have thought of initially.
Restaurants are closing or have closed. If you still want to support these businesses, think about getting a gift card or gift certificate from them on their website or email their contact to do so. This will keep money flowing in their business while we wait for things to pass.
Some people aren’t able to work their day jobs. You might see an uptake in “side hustles” or an increase in those businesses marketing themselves. If you have the means, I encourage you to patronize these hustlers and their side business.
There are a lot of artists out there looking for extra work under the idea of social isolation. Get something commissioned as a gift. Know that they WILL appreciate it. One of a kind art is beautiful and contributes to the beauty during these difficult times.
Shop local! If there is a local grocer or co-op in your area. PLEASE PATRONIZE THEM. Get your produce, frozen items, and more from them. The big stores will be okay. They have the means. Keep your local grocers in mind.
Ask for websites. There are so many local businesses that have websites that, also, have items available for purchase. In addition to this, there are many websites that sell items through small businesses such as Etsy. You can, also, check out Poshmark for gently used clothing that people are selling.
